What is a TV/FM Radio Translator?
Television and FM Radio translators are systems that extend television and FM radio coverage into many areas of Pitkin County. They receive TV and FM signals from the broadcast source and then rebroadcast the same content into your local area on a different frequency. Coverage and reception from our translators largely depends on distance and having line of sight from our broadcast site to your antenna.
For example, to listen to Aspen Public Radio, you can tune to 91.5 FM in Aspen or 90.9 FM in Thomasville to listen to the same program. Likewise, our television translators rebroadcast Denver’s Channel 9 News throughout the Roaring Fork Valley.
Funding for the TV and FM translator service comes from a dedicated Pitkin County mill levy of 0.374. The cost to the taxpayer is $1.42 per $100,000 of assessed valuation.
